Endothermic reaction demonstration procedure
1 Wet the outside of a glass beaker and place it on a piece of wood.
2 Add 32 g of hydrated barium hydroxide plus 17 g of ammonium chloride and stir.
The two solids will become cold enough to freeze the water on the outside of the beaker so that it sets to the wood.
The products of the reaction are barium chloride, water, and ammonia.
Disposal – the contents of the flask can be rinsed out with water and flushed down the drain with excess water.
