Circulation role play

Single or double circulatory system

Students role play circulation of blood.

Get students to walk around the room as if they were blood circulating, first in a fish, then in a human.

Mark in the room the position of:
• lungs or gills,
• the heart
• the respiring cells.

Put oxygen and carbon dioxide in appropriate places. These could be Molymod models, or symbols written on A4 paper.

As my students shuffled around the lab, they soon realised that they had to make a longer journey in a double circulatory system.

Students observers helped by telling those representing blood where to go next, and whether they should pick up oxygen or carbon dioxide.
