Key words games

Key word games work particularly well in Science, due to the large amount of new vocabulary.

Example 1
Write several key words from the topic you have been covering on the board.

Ask a student to choose a word and explain it.

That student then chooses another person to do the same for another word. Each time, the words are rubbed off and this continues until the end.

This helps inform the teacher which words the class are less confident with (the ones left till the end!)

Example 2
Another key word game which can be used is the 'Post it' game.

The teacher chooses several words and sticks them on the heads of pupils. Pupils pair up and they ask their partner yes/no questions to try to guess their word.

For example, the class may be working on cell organelles. The word might be ribosomes. A first question could be 'is it found in prokaryotes?' then 'is it found in eukaryotes?' then 'is it bigger than 5 micrometres?' etc. until pupils can guess the word.
