The Royal Society includes a section of its web site with case studies of research scientists explaining what it is like to work in science.

Careers in the physical sciences

There is a strong careers strand to the Institute of Physics project, Stimulating Physics, to develop young people’s interest in studying physics. The Royal Society of Chemistry has a parallel programme, Chemistry for our Future, which also includes a careers element.

Careers in the biological sciences

There are many organisations offering advice about careers in Biology. You will find a long list on the Science and Plants for Schools web site with web links.

Careers in engineering

The Royal Academy of Engineering oversees the BEST programme to encourage young people into Engineering Careers. There is a careers section on the web site.

SEMTA is the sector skills council for science, engineering and mathematics. It has a careers section with lots of links on its web site.

The ‘scenta’ careers web site is a guide to careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). The site promises stacks of helpful information on careers in STEM for people at school, uni or already in work.

A planned web site

The Science Council is planning to set up a new web site called ‘Careers from Science’. The site has government funding but does not yet exist. There is more information on the Science Council web site.
